SKY DOCUMENTARY
Porn Culture
The task was to create an opener for a German documentary covering the history of pornography from 1950 to 2000. The primary design mandate was to establish the topic instantly while maintaining a viewer-friendly tone by minimizing graphic content. Our final solution centered on simple, vector-based illustrations. This specific stylistic choice was key, as it successfully abstracted the potentially graphic elements, making the subject matter more broadly digestible and opening the door for complex and imaginative animation techniques.
My role spanned the entire creative pipeline, encompassing style development, conceptualization, storyboarding, and animation. This was a collaborative effort with a dedicated illustrator and a fellow motion designer. To ensure authenticity and originality, our process started with in-depth research into famous visual imagery, movie posters, and design elements prevalent in the industry, which served as the foundation for our scene concepts.

RESEARCH &
DEVELOPMENT

We began with extensive, in-depth research into the visual history of the industry. We studied iconic movie posters, covers, and archival imagery to understand the visual language and clichés of the era. We also borrowed inspiration from contemporary pop culture moments—such as the instantly recognizable champagne-spraying figure—to develop scenes that were authentic to the theme without being gratuitously explicit. This strategic research allowed us to identify universally recognizable visual tropes and scenes to inform our creative direction.
This commitment to basing the illustrations on popular themes and covers of the era ensured the opener’s visual language was historically authentic, immediately resonant with the documentary’s subject, and simultaneously softened by the simple, stylized vector aesthetic.

LOGO
DESIGN

Beyond the opener, I created the title design and logo for the documentary. The goal was to establish a cohesive visual identity that immediately informed the viewer about the film's theme. Crucially, the final design had to be both visually compelling and seamlessly maintain the stylized vector language established in the opening animation.
